چکیده

To understand the reproductive ecology of a plant species with both selfing and outcrossing systems, it is important to know how selfed individuals contribute maintenance population. Further, examination magnitude inbreeding depression after pollination essential for accurate measurement success. In this study, we investigated characteristics viable seeds seedlings Rhododendron kaempferi in region where bumblebee pollinator Bombus ardens are abundant. hand-pollination experiment, fruit set from self-pollination was 32%, significantly lower than that outcross-pollination (81%). The number per one sixth outcross-pollination. However, negatively correlated weight seed. addition, germination rate low when seed light. Although could germinate, 89% died within year. coefficient 1 year sowing very high (0.89). These results indicate R. shows extremely strong selection but maintains slight potential natural population central Japan.

Experimental inbreeding reduces seed production and germination independent of fragmentation of populations of Swertia perennis

We studied effects of inbreeding on the early fitness measures seed production and germination in Swertia perennis L. (Gentianaceae), a locally abundant specialist of fen grasslands, which have been greatly fragmented in Switzerland. We further tested whether such effects differed between populations of different size and isolation. We studied effects of free pollination, hand-outcrossing and h...

Optimizing Seed Germination and Growth of Seedlings in Persian Walnut

The efficiency of conventional stratification methods for seed germination of walnut (Juglans regia L.), which uses long moist-chilling periods, is low. This experiment was conducted during winter to spring 2014 to optimize the seed germination of walnut ‘Chandler’ via changing growing media and removing seed mechanical dormancy. Fourteen treatments were tested. None of the seeds germi...

Inbreeding effects on lamb pre-weaning growth traits and survival in three Iranian sheep breeds

The present study was performed to study the effect of inbreeding on the pre-weaning growth traits including the birth weight (BW), weaning weight (WW), average daily gain (ADG), Kleiber ratio (KR) and lamb survival from birth to weaning (SUR) in Baluchi, Iran-Black and Zandi sheep. Significant positive inbreeding trends were found only for Baluchi and Iran-Black breeds as 0.038 and 0.278, resp...

Response of Germination and Seedling Growth of Pepper cultivars to Seed Priming by Plant Growth Regulators

In order to study the germination and growth of pepper seeds, a factorial experiment based on a completely randomized design with three replications was conducted. The first factor was consisting of five cultivars of pepper (Marquiza, Cadia, California Wonder, California Wonder 310 and California Wonder 300) and the second factor was gibberellic acid with three levels (0 as control, 250 and 500...
